As a business, you've probably heard about a lot of companies starting up blogs. But many people don't know the benefit or rather the benefits of having a blog.

A blog isn't just a tab and posts that successful companies earning thousands of dollars a month can afford. It's actually quite simple.

To start one, you need to invest a little time, effort, and if you're planning to outsource the blog, then probably a little money.

So what are the benefits of having a blog?

1)     Offers regular web content

2)     Long-tail keyword ranking

3)     Engages users and drives engagement

4)     Boosts organic and social media reach

5)     Linking

6)     Keeps Google's eyes on your business

That said, now let's go into detail and tackle what each of these points means.

1)     Offers regular web content

You need to regularly update your website. Changing a page or adding another here and there isn't easy and may not be compatible with your business.

But having a blog, where you can post regularly, shows Google that your website is constantly being updated. Google isn't interested in a site that's been dormant for six or seven months. Neither does your target audience. If they log onto your site and find it inactive, chances are they are going to leave.

'When was this website last updated? Oh, June 2017. Everything here is probably outdated' – that's what customers will think.

When considering a blog, you don't have to go overboard with ideas. Instead, some industry insights or updates from your team can be crafted into usable content that can go on your blog. This would make updates and post a lot easier.

2)     SEO and long-tail keyword ranking

Keywords are important in the creation of any website; they support the site and boost their SEO. But short keywords like 'books' or 'marketing' are highly competitive and therefore very hard to rank for. Even more so if you're looking to rank organically.

Having a blog allows you to rank for long-tail keywords, which are keywords that comprise several words. Trying to rank for "SEO copywriting" would still be hard but trying to get into an organic listing for "SEO copywriting course for beginners" for example would be easier.

Every year, there are trillions of searches via Google's search engine. In 2017, Google said that of these massive searches, about 15% are new, that is people type in text that's never been searched before, every day.

In addition to long-tail keywords, you can easily include your website's keywords through relevant blog posts.

3)     Engages users and drives engagement

Having a blog allows you – and your business – to be in direct contact with users. You can answer their questions and requests for help in the form of blog posts.

If you provide certain products, a simple step-by-step guide can be written in the form of a blog post and shared over and over. You also post certain updates to your blog. Let's say you offer a marketing software that comes in versions and you update the version once every few months. You can create blog posts announcing details about the new releases and options if available and so on.

To generate such content, you can create a survey and based on the answers or questions you receive, you can create the content that your users need.

4)     Boosts organic and social media reach

When you create and publish a blog post, it's important to share it across social media. Why? For starters, it can engage your readers across the various platforms, offering a topic for conversation and traction for your blog content and subsequently your website.

In addition, as you publish more and more posts, you can begin to get an idea of what attracts users and customers, what makes them interact and then focus on this type of content.

Not only that, posting your links across social media platforms boosts these links, and your blog, in Google's search.

5)     Linking

Creating content that users like to use and engage with can get people and other websites to link back to you. Google ranks you well when other sites do that BUT you need to be careful. If many spam websites link to you, this will lower your ranking on Google, whose algorithms have changed and expanded over the years.

Have you heard of the term 'link bait?'

According to Moz "Link Bait is providing valuable content on your website so that other websites will naturally reference/link to it without you ever having to ask. Linkable content can be anything from an in-depth research project to an evergreen guide, to a popular video."

While this is something to consider in the long-term, it's not something to start with.

6)     Keeps Google's eyes on your business

As you've probably noticed, Google has appeared in several of the above points. So this point is a bit of a conclusion and sum-up of the above.

Having a blog helps your website's keywords and SEO and allows it to rank on Google while sharing your blog links across social media boosts your blog on Google.

But these aren't the only benefits. When you have a blog that you regularly update, this tells Google that your site is active and alive. It means Google will regularly crawl your site and push it to the top. Does that mean if you don't update your site regularly, your rankings will fall? It does.

Unprofessional Blog?

Last but certainly not least, if you think the term 'blog' is unprofessional for your website, you can call it anything you like; whatever serves your purpose.

A blog is for releasing regular, customer-oriented content. So if the word 'blog' isn't what your target audience will likely click on, give the tab a different name. Find out what fits with your customers and use it.

Depending on your business, the 'blog' can be called the 'Help Center' or 'Articles and Opinions.' If this is something difficult for you to think about, just call it a blog and then reconsider the name later.

Now that the above points are out of the way, have you considered some points you'd like to tackle in your upcoming blog posts?

Your blog should be part of your content marketing strategy. Many of your posts can be green content that can be used over and over again, allowing people to visit your site and link back to you at any time.

I have been surfing online greater than three hours lately, but I by no means found any interesting article like yours. It is beautiful worth enough for me. In my opinion, if all website owners and bloggers made excellent content material as you did, the internet might be a lot more helpful than ever before. I couldn’t resist commenting. Well written! It is perfect time to make some plans for the future and it is time to be happy. I have read this post and if I could I wish to suggest you few interesting things or advice. Perhaps you could write next articles referring to this article. I want to read even more things about it! http://linux.com
